Create The Card Competition 2022

Once-in-a-lifetime chance to design a BBFC Black Card for Universal Pictures' summer blockbuster, Jurassic World Dominion

From the early days of cinema, we’ve been giving films age ratings on our famous Black Cards. Now, we're giving you a chance to design a Black Card yourself - and see your idea on the big screen in front of the next big summer blockbuster.

This year, your creation could be seen on a special Black Card displayed in cinemas before every showing of Jurassic World Dominion - people all over the country will see it. It's a unique opportunity to have your picture and your name up in lights.

How to enter

We'd love to see your design shown in cinemas before Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World Dominion as the official Black Card, which displays the age rating and ratings info. Check out the previous winner from 2019 for inspiration.

Send us your submission on a landscape A4 piece of paper - you can use any technique you like, but the more creative, the better. It must be all your own work, and we can’t accept any entries that use images taken from films or online. Then, post your original entry to the BBFC London offices (Create The Card Competition, BBFC, 3 Soho Square, London, W1D 3HD). You can also scan your picture and email it to us at createthecard@bbfc.co.uk.

As your design will become the real Black Card, please remember to leave a space for the BBFC logo and the title of the film. We will add in the other important information (the signatures of our CEO and President who approve each decision, the film's unique code, and our BBFC ratings info). You can download the template here.

Who will decide on the winner?

Our BBFC education team, working with the team who create Black Cards for all cinema film releases in the UK, will select a shortlist. The final design will be chosen by our CEO and President - you will have seen their signatures on the big screen at the cinema! We’re also delighted to have some special guests from Universal Pictures co-judging the competition and sitting on the panel too.

The entries will be judged on creativity, originality, and innovation.

As well as seeing their Black Card on the big screen in front of Jurassic World Dominion, the winner will also receive four tickets to a special screening of the film, a framed copy of their Black Card, along with a goody bag. 10 runners up will also receive a goody bag.

Rules

The competition is open to young people aged between 12-16 in the UK - and you can post your entries to us at ‘Create The Card Competition, BBFC, 3 Soho Square, London, WD1 3HD,’ or you can email them to us at createthecard@bbfc.co.uk

Make sure to include your name, age, school, and the details of an adult whom we can contact and who has given you permission to enter on the back.

Don’t forget to check out the terms and conditions.

The competition closes on Wednesday 11 May and the winner will be announced at the end of May.

Good luck!

Whether you’re looking for something creative to do during form time, or you need lesson ideas for your art and media students, our Create The Card competition is the perfect activity to do as a class.

It can also supplement both our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 PSHE resources. Our resources will help the students in your form develop strategies for coping with decision-making and learn about how and why age ratings are given to content. You can download the full lesson plans for free on our website.
