‘Paint your poster’ this autumn with the BBFC Create the Card competition.
We’re offering UK-based young people aged 12 - 16 the chance to design the official BBFC Black Card for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, in collaboration with Lionsgate.
Your artwork could be shown on the big screen ahead of every UK cinema screening of the film, displaying the official age rating and content advice to audiences nationwide.
Entry Information
We encourage all young artists to watch the film’s latest trailer and revisit the world of Panem. Set 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, it begins on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
The artwork must be the participant's own. We can’t accept any entries that use images taken from films or online or those which have been created using AI tools. Please make sure to read our terms and conditions.

Design top tips
Bright, colourful designs that fill the page work best in the cinema environment.
Any medium can be used: paint, felt tip, biro, collage etc. Colouring pencils can be used, but they don’t always translate well to the big screen, so we recommend using a different medium if possible.
Remember to leave space for all the important information. We will overlay the official age rating symbol, film title, content advice and signatures over your artwork. Please do not draw these symbols yourself. The BBFC will add this to the winning entry.
Avoid metallic or glitter finishes. These lose their shine when converted into a digital Black Card.
If creating a collage, please do not make the sheet thicker than two pieces of paper.
Please don't fold the artwork; use staples or sellotape.
Most importantly, make sure the design is inspired by the world of Panem.
Format: Create your entry on landscape A4 paper. Entrants should include all their details on the back (see below for more details). A template is available to download below.
As the artwork will become the official Black Card for the film, please ensure that any design takes into consideration the space we will need to include the age rating symbol, film title and BBFC content advice. We will also add other important information, including the signatures of our President, CEO and winner(!), as well as the film’s unique code, and our BBFC logo, over the top of your amazing artwork.

The entries will be judged on creativity, originality, and how well the artwork reflects the tone and atmosphere of Panem in their own style. The judges will also consider how well the artwork functions as a backdrop for the official Black Card text and age rating symbol.
The BBFC Education Team will sift all entries before selecting the shortlist. The panel of judges including BBFC President Natasha Kaplinsky OBE, BBFC CEO David Austin OBE, representatives from Lionsgate and an independent judge will then narrow down the shortlist to crown the winner of the competition.
Not only will the winner see their Black Card on the big screen in front of every UK cinema screening of the film but they will also receive a BBFC goody bag, along with some Hunger Games merchandise. They will also need to be available in the last week of October or first week of November to travel to London and participate in a special winner’s day experience (all expenses covered), where they will be able to attend an exclusive screening of the film.
Nine runners-up will receive a BBFC goody bag, Hunger Games merchandise and personalised Black Card.
The BBFC's Create The Card Competition is a very special event, and we're always excited to showcase the winner's creativity and hard work. In the past, winners and their families have participated in promotional activities, including radio and television interviews. We’d love to involve the winner of this competition in any of our press activities and will be inviting the winning participant to take part in a range of press and media activity. We will seek parental consent for all media participation.
The competition is open to all residents of the UK, including the Channel Islands, aged 12 - 16.
Each entry must include the following on the back:
Child’s name
Child’s age and school year group
Child’s school and location (if applicable)
A parent/guardian/teacher name
A parent/guardian/teacher phone number
A parent/guardian/teacher email address
Don’t forget to check out the terms and conditions.
The competition closes at 23:59 on Sunday 18 October and the winner will be announced ahead of the film’s release in UK cinemas on Friday 20 November.
Best of luck!
