Toy Story 5

Eight-year-old Tommy won the BBFC Create the Card competition for Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5. Tommy used acrylic paint with a mix of brushes and sponges to create his artwork. A pragmatic artist, Tommy decided on bringing to life the character’s feet as “feet are easier to draw than faces!”

Wicked: For Good

This winning design was by Maidah, aged 11. Using a striking combination of water-based paint, acrylic pens and colouring pencils, Maidah’s winning artwork beautifully captured the heart of Wicked: For Good, celebrating the power of friendship, defying expectations and discovering the magic of doing good together. The artwork had begun as part of a ‘Wicked Art Club’ project run by her class teacher, Miss Miller, but Maidah’s passion led her to continue refining it at home.

Superman

Elsie was our last secondary Create the Card Competition winner. Using bold watercolours and expressive brushstrokes, Elsie captured the film’s enduring spirit of hope and heroism. From the composition of the piece, it was clear Elsie had thought about how her artwork would work as a BBFC Black Card, as her design translated excellently for the big screen and complemented the orange ‘12A’ BBFC age rating symbol.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3

Ruby’s entry was a striking, impactful tri-colour design that brilliantly reflected the brief. It conveyed a real sense of movement, capturing the spirit of Sonic the Hedgehog as he sped across the screen.

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish

This was the winning design by Toby, aged 9, who won the Create the Card Competition for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Toby used a range of artistic techniques, including pen and pencil and a special marbling effect for the background that really stood out. The careful placement of Puss in Boots allowed for the important Black Card information to be readable.

Jurassic World Dominion

Aaron, who won the BBFC Create the Card competition for Jurassic World Dominion shared his experience. "I've always wanted a reason to paint a dinosaur and this competition gave me a reason to do so, which has been so fun. The style I painted in was drawn from the work of Paul Signac who I have been studying for my art project and who I really like. I chose his style as it felt the most expressive to me and I could adapt it to my own preference of colours without compromising his technique and aesthetic."

Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil

Our first ever Create the Card competition was for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Winning artist, May, used pink and purple watercolours to create a dreamy backdrop for Maleficent’s iconic horns.
