  • Nationwide competition for young people, aged 12-16, to design the iconic BBFC Black Card
  • Unique opportunity for students to see their artwork at every UK cinema showing of the film
  • Winner to attend special screening of the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era
  • Jurassic World Dominion arrives in UK cinemas from 10 June 2022

Today, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), in collaboration with Universal Pictures, has launched a Create The Card competition for 12-16 year olds across the UK to design the official BBFC Black Card for the upcoming summer blockbuster, Jurassic World Dominion.

Since the early days of motion pictures, the BBFC’s iconic Black Card has provided age ratings across cinema screens. Now, we have partnered with Universal Pictures to invite young people across the country to unlock their imaginations and creative potential to design a unique BBFC Black Card. The competition aims to encourage young people to use the world of cinema to inspire innovative illustrations and harness their creative flair through film education.

To coincide with the competition launch, Universal and the BBFC have released an exclusive video from Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, part of the star-studded cast of Jurassic World Dominion, calling for Jurassic megafans across the country to apply. Chris Pratt said: “This is your moment to put your mark on a piece of film history 65 million years in the making,” before adding: “show us what Jurassic World means to you.”

The winning design will be projected on the big screen before every cinema showing of Jurassic World Dominion in the UK, opening in cinemas from 10 June. The winner will also receive four tickets to a special screening of the film, a framed copy of their BBFC Black Card, and a goody bag.

Sarah Peacock, BBFC Compliance and Education Manager, said: “Following its success, we are delighted for the upcoming re-launch of our Create The Card competition, ahead of the highly-anticipated summer blockbuster. We are excited to see the fresh ideas and new perspectives of young people around the UK, and look forward to recognising their potential. Young people are at the heart of what we do and this competition provides another opportunity to engage them in the work of the BBFC.”

Entries open today across the UK, with the competition closing on Wednesday 11 May. The selection process will entail a jury panel comprising industry experts and professionals from both Universal Pictures and the BBFC. The winner will be revealed at the end of May, ahead of the film’s UK release on Friday 10 June

Young people between 12-16 can enter the competition by either scanning and emailing a copy of their A4 landscape design, or posting it directly to the BBFC’s London offices. Competition templates can be downloaded here.
