Our Youth Panel told us that mental health and depictions of mental health on screen was one of their most important issues in 2021.
During one of our regular Youth Panel sessions, we took the opportunity to discuss this topic and invited members of the panel to help shape our brand new Key Stage 4 PSHE resource for 14-16 year olds.
To launch the resource, we wanted to find out more widely what what teens thought. Our research revealed that nearly seven in 10 teens (68%) say that seeing positive portrayals of mental health conditions on-screen breaks down stigma, and half (48%) said that seeing these depictions helps them understand issues around mental health.
Our Youth Panel member Megan was invited onto the Mental Health Monday podcast with Mick Coyle alongside our CEO, David Austin, to talk about this more.
