When You're Strange

There is occasional use of historical footage of riots, police brutality and war violence, without strong detail.

There is use of strong language (‘f**k’). Milder terms include ‘cock’, ‘pussy’, ‘asshole’, ‘bastard’ and ‘crap’, in addition to the ‘middle finger’ gesture.

Moderate sex references include news reports concerning acts of simulated ‘manual masturbation’ and ‘oral copulation’ during a live stage performance. Archive footage of a music festival briefly shows a man fondling a woman’s breast under her shirt.

Historical footage illustrating the American Civil Rights movement features sight of Black protesters being violently restrained by white police officers, as well as burning crosses and Ku Klux Klan marches.

References to misuse of drugs, including hash, LSD and cocaine, run throughout. The film emphasises the detrimental effect of drugs and alcohol on singer Jim Morrison’s health, career, and personal relationships.

There are verbal references to alleged acts of ‘indecent exposure’ on stage. Another scene contains a reference to a woman having supposedly struck a man with a bottle after he put his face in her lap without her consent.

Footage of the Vietnam War features a moderate bloody image of an injured soldier. A photograph of the aftermath of a real police shooting shows an injured or dead person lying face-down on the ground, without visible wounds. Fleeting glimpses of bloody detail occur in photos of the aftermath of the shooting of Robert F Kennedy. Another scene features brief images of an injured animal by the side of a road.

There are several brief images of breast nudity in the context of implied sexual activity. Other scenes feature non-sexual full-frontal nudity.
