violence
In a disturbing scene of violence, a mentally ill character strangles a woman while bearing down on her inside a car. Someone intervenes and stops the attack, but a patch of blood is seen on the woman's skirt, strongly suggesting that she has suffered a miscarriage. There are also references to the murder of children and young teens, including brief sight of a body face-down at a crime scene.
language
There is infrequent use of strong language ('f**k'), which is accompanied by very mild terms ('Jesus').
sex
Two people have sex inside a car, from which moans can be heard briefly. The encounter is also accompanied by a crude verbal exchange.
drugs
A man huffs a liquid solvent in one scene. There are also scenes in which the man displays a dependency on the prescription medication offered to him by his therapist.
sexual violence and sexual threat
A man who has confessed to several child murders is questioned in various scenes about the purported sexual abuse he inflicted on them, and the abuse that he suffered at the hands of his own father. In the most detailed description, the man reveals how his father molested him in the bath at the age of three. Rape is mentioned in relation to children, but without graphic detail.
suicide and self-harm
Verbal references are made to suicide and a character's suicidal ideation, but there is no graphic detail.
suicide and self-harm
A man strikes himself repeatedly in the face with a landline phone following a heated argument; however, this is not depicted in detail.
theme
The mental health of a psychiatric patient and confessed killer is a theme of the film. Scenes depict the man in states of distress, crying and wailing upon recollection of past traumas, lashing out at others and vomiting. In one scene, the man pleads with his therapist to be released from one particular institution because of their cruel treatment. It is implied that electroshock therapy was used on the man to treat his ailing mental health.
