The United States Vs. Billie Holiday

In a scene of domestic abuse, a man punches and kicks a woman, causing her face to bleed.

The film features strong language ('motherf**ker', 'f**k') as well as uses of 'bitch', 'shit', 'ass', 'whore', and 'son of a bitch'.

Scenes of strong sex include thrusting, a couple moving into different positions, and breast and buttock nudity. In one sequence there is a flashback to a brothel, but without strong sexual detail.

References to racism include the aftermath of a lynching, with sight of two children crying as a black woman is shown hanging from a tree. There are also archive images of a charred body following an incident of racist violence. There is also use of racist language ('n****r'), and reclaimed uses between black characters.

Scenes of drug misuse include a woman preparing and taking heroin, and a man licking a bloody arm after he has injected himself. There are also scenes of characters abusing other substances, including marijuana. However, the work as a whole does not condone drug misuse.

There are undetailed references to child sex abuse when a man says that a woman was raped when she was 10, and a flash back scene in which a mother tells her young child to make money by 'caressing' and 'pleasing' men.
