drugs
There are scenes of drug misuse, both dramatised and of a real life nature, which depict the smoking of joints, misuse of prescription medication, the preparation and injecting of amphetamines and heroin, the use of LSD and solvent abuse. There are references throughout to the misuse of marijuana, prescription medication, heroin, cocaine, LSD and solvents, with information given on the effects of the various drugs. There are also references, with some dramatised depictions, of the consequences of drug misuse, such as addiction, overdoses and death, and to drug dealing.
suicide and self-harm
In documentary footage a drug user talks about attempts to kill herself with prescription medication and wrist-cutting, but without strong detail.
alcohol and smoking
There are references to the irresponsible consumption of alcohol in the context of drunk driving. Dramatised sequences depict car crashes and victims of drunk drivers being run over, with occasional bloody images but not strong detail.
additional issues
There are dramatised depictions of dangerous behaviour, such as small children shutting themselves in fridges or riding cycles down stairs, and a game of Russian Roulette taking place which is used as a metaphor for gambling with the consequences of drug misuse. In a film from 1970, the discriminatory terms 'negro' and 'retarded' are used in a historical context. There are moderate sex references, including comments about prostitution and STDs. There is mild violence. There is very mild bad language ('hell', 'damn', 'God').
