drug references, mild bad language, references to violence

THE GOLD MACHINE is a documentary film in which a father and daughter retrace their colonialist ancestor’s journey through Peru.

THE GOLD MACHINE is a documentary film in which a father and daughter retrace their colonialist ancestor’s journey through Peru.

violence
There are mild references to violence, including sight of a highly stylised illustration of a man holding up a bloodless severed head. We see close up images of reddish water as someone relates a folk tale in which a woman’s family members attempt to kill her by crushing her head. In another scene a woman sings a folk song which mentions having to be careful lest her husband beat her.
language
There is infrequent use of mild bad language (e.g. ‘shit’).
drugs
There are undetailed verbal references to tourists in Peru using ayahuasca in an attempt to attain ‘what they perceive as enlightenment’, but this is not endorsed. There is also a passing reference to coca leaves.
additional issues
There is a reference to the colonialist view of Indigenous people as ‘primitive’, as well as very mild verbal references to historical slavery; discrimination is not condoned. There is a passing undetailed reference to suicide, and very mild images of ancient skeletons. We see cooked guinea pigs at a Peruvian market, in addition to a brief shot of a sack containing a squealing pig. Another scene features brief sight of two dogs mating.
