During a made-up ritual, a child raises a knife towards the wrist of her blindfolded friend, who becomes increasingly scared; however, the children are interrupted before either one is injured. A girl experiences disturbing dreams, including one in which she sees herself hunched over in the dark, eating a bloodied dead animal. In another scene a drunk man chases a frightened girl through the woods at night.

There are moderate sex references, such as in a scene in which two young girls discuss their limited knowledge of sex and one repeats comments from male classmates about menstruating women and girls ‘smelling of fish’. In another scene a 19-year-old man briefly kisses a 12-year-old girl, believing her to be older than she is.
