threat and horror
During a made-up ritual, a child raises a knife towards the wrist of her blindfolded friend, who becomes increasingly scared; however, the children are interrupted before either one is injured. A girl experiences disturbing dreams, including one in which she sees herself hunched over in the dark, eating a bloodied dead animal. In another scene a drunk man chases a frightened girl through the woods at night.
There are moderate sex references, such as in a scene in which two young girls discuss their limited knowledge of sex and one repeats comments from male classmates about menstruating women and girls ‘smelling of fish’. In another scene a 19-year-old man briefly kisses a 12-year-old girl, believing her to be older than she is. There is infrequent use of strong language (‘f**k’), occasional moderate bloody injury detail, scenes of marijuana misuse, and a scene of breast nudity in a non-sexual context. A young girl repeats discriminatory comments made by her father about fat women being ‘disgusting’, and in another scene the same girl is shown pinching her own thighs to check her body fat. Other issues include infrequent undetailed references to domestic abuse and self-harm.
