SILENT HILL - DOWNPOUR is a survival-horror game for the Xbox 360 console. A man escapes from prison and tries to piece together what happened in his past. In the town of Silent Hill, he is attacked by various otherworldly creatures. The game was classified '15' for strong bloody violence, horror and language.

The violence during gameplay largely involves the player character encountering waves of non-human enemies and fighting them off with a variety of weapons, including guns, knives, axes, shovels, crowbars, baseball bats, chairs and other objects that lie around the game environments. The bullet impacts and blows are accompanied by a variety of sound effects and copious, dark blood spurts. However, there is no opportunity to dismember enemies or to inflict damage on them after death, as the bodies disappear quickly. Some balance to the violence is provided by the extensive puzzle-solving elements that are necessary in order to make progress through the game. The violence is accompanied by a strong sense of horror, including detailed images of corpses littering the game's environments, but this is simply part of the sinister atmosphere that is established very early on The game does contain some stronger and more realistic violence during cutscenes, in which human characters are killed in variously bloody ways. However, this forms a relatively small part of a large, sprawling game and the overall treatment of violence meets with the terms of the BBFC's Guidelines at '15' which state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable'.

The game also contains frequent use of strong language. The Guidelines at '15' state 'There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, 'fuck')'.
