One person stabs another with a scythe, resulting in brief sight of blood. We hear the sound of gunshots as men are executed off screen. A soldier knocks a man to the ground with the butt of his gun. In another scene a man slaughters a pig below frame; we briefly hear the animal squealing but there is no bloody detail.

Scenes set during World War II briefly show frightened civilians being manhandled, arrested or forced onto trains by Nazi soldiers. In another scene a Nazi officer announces to a crowd that all the men of their village are to be executed; however, he rescinds the order shortly afterwards due to unforeseen events.
