SAFARI DETECTIVE is a children's adventure in which an aspiring young amateur detective investigates the killing of a rhino in a safari park.
threat and horror
Frequent scenes of mild threat, including gun threat, are often directed at children. Children are locked in a room in a spooky house by an unpleasant man. Threat is also directed at animals in the safari park as the children attempt to track down a ruthless gang of poachers. A snake slithers on to a minibus scaring passengers onboard.
language
Use of mild bad language ('bloody hell', 'crap', 'bollocks') is accompanied by very mild terms such as 'damn' and 'God'.
discrimination
A group of children are chastised by a woman, who accuses them of racism, after they suspect a Chinese man of being a poacher. The children later apologise to the man who tells them that racism is dangerous.
injury detail
There is upsetting sight of a dead rhino with its horn severed. The bloody detached horn is later discovered by some children in a house.
theme
Adults and children become distressed after they stumble upon a rhino killed by poachers for its horn and a baby rhino is left orphaned. There is also brief sight of a photo of dead rhinos who have been killed in a similar way. Characters discuss the importance of protecting endangered species and the environment. References are made to the deaths of children's parents from AIDs and how the older children now have responsibility for bringing up their younger siblings.
additional issues
A reference is made to rhinos' horns being used as a 'sex enhancer'. A child kicks a man in the leg in a comical manner.
