Sequences depicting the D-Day landings include large groups of soldiers struck by gunfire as they attempt to storm the beaches of Normandy. In one scene, a soldier uses his rifle to bludgeon another to death; however, the impact of this violence is not seen.

Soldiers look fearful as they prepare to go into battle; injured soldiers scream for help during an invasion. There are also mildly intense sequences in which the impending invasion is discussed, and a man receives news that his pregnant wife could be in danger.

Strong language ('f**k') is used infrequently; milder terms include 'bloody', 'crap', 'ass', 'shit', 'Jesus', 'Christ', 'God', 'moron', 'hell' and 'goddamn'.

The bodies of numerous fallen soldiers litter a beach in scenes which also include blood-stained sand and bloody sea water.

Upsetting scenes relate to bereavement and references to wartime deaths.

Adults are often seen smoking, and there are scenes in which people drink alcohol.
