violence
Scenes of brutal and sadistic violence, predominantly against women, include wire strangulations and bloody beatings. In one sequence, a killer puts all of his weight on a woman's leg and is shown enjoying the pain he is causing. Domestic abuse is a theme of the film. There are flashback scenes to a boy being physically and verbally abused by his violent father who regularly and viciously beats him and treats him like a slave. A man is taunted and insulted by his wife who gets pleasure from humiliating him. A scared young boy listens whilst his parents viciously argue and verbally abuse each other.
threat and horror
A strong sense of menacing and pervasive threat runs throughout film primarily from a sadistic serial killer who stalks and murders women. Women are seen tied up and terrified before they die.
language
Use of moderate bad language ('slut') is accompanied by milder terms such as 'bloody', 'ass', 'bullshit' and 'damn'.
sex
Verbal sex references are moderate and occasionally crude. A couple are briefly caught engaging in sexual activity in a forest.
suicide and self-harm
A man locks himself in a room and takes his own life using gas to create an explosion. In a flashback scene, it is implied that a man is contemplating suicide when he puts his head on train tracks.
injury detail
There is a focus within scenes on the bloody strangulation wounds and in one case, the severed ear on the bodies of murdered women and there are detailed verbal references to the injuries they have sustained at the hands of a sadistic killer. Other scenes include beatings, stabbings and shootings with blood spurts and bloody aftermath detail. In one sequence, a man is shot in the eye and there is gruesome sight of his bloody eye socket. A man sets himself on fire resulting in severe burns and bloody wounds to his face and body.
disturbing images
Terrified women are tied up and photographed by a disturbed killer. There is repeated sight of the photographs which capture the terror they experienced before they were brutally murdered.
theme
There are moments of emotional upset due to bereavement. Parents become distraught when discovering their daughters have been savagely murdered. A little girl sobs over the body of her dead mother.
