violence
There are scenes of martial arts fighting, including stylised sword fights, use of bows and arrows and nunchucks, as well as some encounters involving kicks and blows to the head and torso. There is also focus on bladed weapons, such as throwing stars and flick knives. For example, in a flashback sequence, a criminal gang corner the lone protagonist wielding a flick knife and fork. A fork becomes embedded in a dog's foot without injury detail, before a hero intervenes and the scene ends reassuringly. Reference is made to 'serial killers' wearing halloween masks but this is entirely comic with no such violence actually playing out on-screen.
threat and horror
There are scenes of threat in which a large army mobilises, and ninja-like bandits attack and terrorize villagers. However, such sequences are frequently punctuated by comic, slapstick moments. In another scene, a tsunami of water threatens to engulf a village, with some young characters in danger of being swept away. However, the resilience and teamwork of the protagonist and fellow villagers means that everything ends reassuringly.
language
There is use of very mild bad language ('butt', 'morons', 'God' and 'damn'). This is also accompanied by implied use of mild bad language (e.g. 'holy *!*!'), and wordplay around stronger terms (e.g. "what the fuzz"), although the words themselves are not used.
rude humour
There is use of innuendo, including song lyrics referencing the protagonist's 'giant sword'. A character comments on another's 'big balls' of yarn. In another scene, a character mishears 'dog' as 'dong'. The protagonist becomes wedged in another's bottom cheeks during a fight sequence. Other rude humour includes fart and burp gags, as well as reference to dogs urinating and soiling.
A character is referred to as having a problem with alcohol and is often seen drinking 'catnip' in various scenes.
