Scenes feature gunfire resulting in large spurts of blood, as well as assaults on characters using punches, kicks, repeated blows, and attacks with sticks and glass bottles. Scenes of hand to hand combat include crunchy blows and use of improvised weapons. During a scene of torture, a man's fingernail is ripped off. Other moments of violence include depictions of arson, the use of tear gas and a man's leg being forcibly broken.

There is occasional use of moderate bad language ('prick'). Milder terms include 'crap', 'bugger', 'bloody', 'shit', 'tosser', 'bastard', 'freaking', 'God', 'hell', 'damn', 'moron' and 'screw'.

There is a brief mild sex reference when a character is mentioned as 'sleeping with' someone.

Characters are discriminated against based on the language they speak. The ableist term 'cripple' is used. There are references to languages dying as a result of colonisation.

There are scenes depicting suicide.

Scenes of violence sometimes contain wound detail, and bloodied corpses are seen in the aftermath. Other injuries include ligature marks in the aftermath of a choking, as well as burns. In one scene, a man cuts his own arm with a knife, resulting in a bloody wound; in another, a person writes words in blood.

There are themes of political violence, including scenes of death related to political conflict. A woman is fatally shot while holding her baby. There are depictions of bereavement.

Adults are occasionally shown smoking cigarettes.
