Paradise is Burning

Children are shown slapping and hitting each other in a scene of moderate violence.

There is use of very strong language (‘c**t’) and strong language (‘f**k’). Milder terms include ‘screw’, ‘piss’, ‘bastard’, ‘shit’, ‘bullshit’, ‘tits’ and ‘boobs’, as well as use of the ‘middle finger’ gesture.

There are infrequent moderate sex references. A 16-year-old character and an adult woman appear to form a romantic attachment, but their relationship goes no further than a brief kiss.

The film contains infrequent depiction of marijuana misuse.

Mild injury detail includes brief sight of nosebleeds. A child squashes raw steak in her hands and smears the blood on her face. There is also a brief sequence of projectile vomiting.

A teenager hits herself in the face with a rock, creating a bloody cut on her eyebrow, in order to pretend she has recently been in a fight. Another scene shows a girl using an iron and ironing board to straighten her hair.

There are scenes of emotional upset and child neglect, as a 16-year-old struggles to get by when she and her young siblings are left to fend for themselves for months.

Adults, teens and young children are depicted drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes.
