violence
Moderate violence includes punches, slaps and beatings. One person smashes a vase over another’s head, resulting in moderate bloody aftermath detail. Flashbacks show a man berating his distressed young son and repeatedly striking him with a stick, without visible injuries. Other scenes show a woman behaving in a threatening and controlling manner towards her adult son, forbidding him from socialising and slapping his face. There are also occasional verbal references to domestic abuse.
threat and horror
A man is chased into the path of a moving lorry which throws him into the air, killing him.
language
There is infrequent use of strong language (‘f**k’). Milder terms include ‘screwed’, ‘bloody’, ‘crap’, ‘damn’, ‘God’, ‘hell’, ‘freaking’, ‘butt’ and ‘moron’.
sex
A couple are briefly shown kissing and embracing in bed, without nudity. Another scene contains undetailed references to ‘mistresses’.
sexual violence and sexual threat
There is a scene of rape, without graphic visual detail. Another scene implies that a vulnerable young man is being sexually abused by an older man; we see the older man pressing the younger one on to a bed, but there is no further detail.
suicide
There are brief non-graphic references to an off-screen suicide attempt.
injury detail
We see a dead dog lying in a large pool of blood after it is killed off screen. There is brief sight of moderate bloody detail in the aftermath of a blow to a man’s head, and of two separate traffic accidents. A sick man coughs up blood. In another scene a man kills a dog with a rock after it is injured by a lorry; both the blow and the dead dog are kept off screen but the man’s face and clothes are left spattered with blood. The film contains no evidence of real animal cruelty.
dangerous behaviour
A young man starts a fire, pours alcohol on the flames and leaves his panicking friends to cope with the spreading blaze.
theme
Mild scenes of emotional distress occur throughout the film.
