On Our Doorstep

strong language, threat

ON OUR DOORSTEP is a British documentary centred on the impact of volunteers in the Calais Jungle.

ON OUR DOORSTEP is a British documentary centred on the impact of volunteers in the Calais Jungle.

threat and horror
There are scenes of threat in which fires rage in a refugee camp and endanger lives. Volunteers attempt to fight the fires and risk their lives to move gas canisters at risk of causing explosions. Individuals communicate via phone with a young boy who is trapped in a refrigerated truck along with a number of other children who have attempted to cross the border inside, and is apparently running out of oxygen. Protesting refugees clash with police, who are armed with riot gear, and throw tear gas canisters and spray fire hoses at the crowds.
language
There is use of strong language (‘f**k’), as well as milder terms including ‘shit’ and ‘hell’.
additional issues
There are moments of real violence including brief sight of a policeman forcibly pushing an individual to the ground. A man references Islamophobia he has faced as a refugee in France. There are upsetting scenes, including visuals of the horrific conditions in the camp, and detail of individuals who have gone missing or lost their lives from the events or in an attempt to cross the border. There are undetailed references to sexual violence.
