We see a woman being manhandled and threatened by her husband and mother-in-law; the woman also reveals bruises on her arms and face as proof that her husband regularly beats her. Though others are sympathetic to the abused woman’s plight, an unlikable character in a position of power is cruelly dismissive of her situation and orders her to remain obedient to her new family, resulting in tragedy. There are also comic scenes of violence in which a woman is repeatedly struck across the face and a man’s behind is beaten with sticks by relatives in punishment for plotting a murder.
threat and horror
There are scenes of comic horror in which frightened women are menaced by a spooky doll and a zombie with bloody wounds on its face; however the audience is aware that the supernatural threat is part of an elaborate prank to make the women change their ways.
language
Bad language includes ‘bloody’, ‘damn’ and 'hell'.
discrimination
There are scenes of sexist behaviour, including domestic abuse and demands for dowries. Unsympathetic characters express the view that women should be ‘docile’ and obedient to their husbands and in-laws, and that sons and grandsons are preferable to female descendents. Other scenes contain derogatory jokes about female characters’ weight. However, the film as a whole carries a clear anti-sexism message.
drugs
During a political speech, a man advises people to avoid drugs and alcohol.
injury detail
A person disguises themself as a zombie with bloody facial injuries in order to scare other people. Another scene contains images of a dead body without visible wounds in the aftermath of off-screen suicide.
suicide and self-harm
There are moderate images of a dead body following an off-screen suicide. In a series of comic scenes, a character tries to win her family’s sympathy and support by threatening to take her own life, but they immediately deduce that she is bluffing.
sexual violence and sexual threat
A woman threatens to report a male colleague for ‘harassment’ when he makes romantic advances towards her, but it is clear that she does not mean it, and the couple enter into a consensual relationship shortly afterwards.
alcohol and smoking
There are scenes depicting drunken behaviour at a wedding.
