threat and horror
Footballers push and shove each other as they argue in the dressing room.
language
Use of strong language ('f**k') is accompanied by moderate ('pussy', 'wanker', prick') and milder terms such as 'bollocks', 'piss', 'arse', 'bloody hell', 'frigging', 'shit' and 'Christ'.
discrimination
References are made to the racial abuse that Black footballers experience. England players become distressed as they recall the 'monkey chants' and other racist epthitets they regularly hear shouted at them. An ex-player calls the manager 'woke' and mocks him for taking an anti-racist stance. Racism is clearly condemned by the play as a whole.
rude humour
There is occasional mild rude humour, such as men joking about a teammate's interest in another's 'groin strain'. A man comically compares a team's penalty taking to 'premature ejaculation'.
theme
Football players struggle to come to terms with the trauma they have experienced on the football pitch and references are made to their mental health struggles. A player alludes to the abuse he suffered as a child.
