People are stabbed, slashed or decapitated by blades during sequences of rioting and mob violence, although the infliction of wounds is either undetailed or masked from view. In one scene, a pregnant woman is attacked; it is implied that her attackers cut into her stomach with a knife. There are also brief sequences of real war footage featuring undetailed explosions.

Prolonged scenes show armed mobs attacking and murdering frightened people during raids and massacres.

Bad language includes ‘bitch’, ‘shit’, ‘screwed’, ‘damn’, ‘God’ and ‘hell’.

Scenes set during the Partition of India depict cultural and religious discrimination, including violent attacks and forced displacements.

Attackers are seen tearing off a woman’s clothes, without on-screen nudity.

There are strong images of bloodied corpses and pools of blood following scenes of violence. Real war footage includes sight of an unconscious man with blood on his face.

A sustained massacre scene includes a sequence wherein a distressed woman cuts the throats of young female relatives - depicted without blood - in order to protect them from a worse fate. Other scenes include upsetting depictions of serious illness, bereavement and emotional distress.
