Family members are shown slapping one another during arguments, and a woman repeatedly strikes her adult daughter with a switch.

Bad language includes ‘piss’, ‘damn’, ‘hell’ and ‘God’.

Occasional sex references include ones to condoms, sexual ‘promiscuousness’ and ‘sleeping around’.

There is a scene of sexual violence in which a woman is raped by a predatory doctor; this sequence lacks graphic detail. A woman discovers she is pregnant after being raped at a party while unconscious. Verbal references are also made to sexual violence, and there are also several non-graphic scenes of street harassment.

An upsetting scene shows a person attempting suicide, without graphic visual detail. A distressed pregnant woman is briefly shown striking her own belly. There are also verbal references to suicide, and to a woman's fear that her family will take their own lives if they discover that she has become pregnant outside of marriage.

A scene depicting a backstreet abortion features brief and partially blurred-out bloody detail. Other scenes show a character vomiting.

Prolonged scenes of emotional distress, relating to challenging themes including sexual violence and abortion, occur throughout the film.
