Cuts:
The distributor chose to make cuts to scenes of drug misuse and bloody images in order to achieve their preferred category of 12A. Cuts were made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut 15 classification was available.
violence
An unsettling flashback sequence shows a disturbed child locking their distressed sibling in a chest and leaving them to die. A series of black-and-white scenes depicting possible solutions to the film’s central murder mystery shows various male suspects - including the victim’s boyfriend - strangling a woman, without strong visual detail. Another person is killed via a heavy blow to the head, resulting in brief bloody crime scene detail. There is also a verbal reference to a case involving a man suspected of murdering his daughter.
threat and horror
Occasional scenes of threat include a moderately intense car crash scene.
language
There is a cut-off use of strong language (‘fu–’). Milder terms include ‘bastard’, ‘balls’, ‘screwed up’, ‘hell’ and ‘God’.
sex
There are infrequent mild sex references.
discrimination
After a model is murdered, a sexist police chief concludes that she must have been promiscuous and suggests that she was therefore to blame for her own death. The same man makes belittling comments towards a female police officer, including calling her a 'naive little girl'. His attitude and behaviour are criticised, however.
drugs
There are infrequent references to drug addiction, along with brief sight of drug paraphernalia on a table. Drug misuse is not endorsed by the work as a whole.
injury detail
There is moderate sight of cuts and blood on people’s hands and faces, and of dead bodies at crime scenes.
suicide and self-harm
There are scenes of suicide, without any graphic detail.
sexual violence and sexual threat
A sleazy record producer invites a singer to his hotel room, invades her personal space in a sexually threatening manner, and implies that she will have to acquiesce to his desires for the sake of her career. The woman finally opts to sacrifice her record contract and leave instead.
theme
There are mild scenes of bereavement following the death of a child.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
