violence
A dog's ear is torn off in a fight, resulting in a small amount of blood, but the dog does not express pain or distress. Another dog receives a black eye in a fight with a robot. A stylised painting shows a decapitated samurai, with only minor bloody detail.
threat and horror
Characters face dog catchers, robot dogs and other dogs who are rumoured to be cannibals in scenes of mildly intense threat. A plot to exterminate the dogs with poison does not succeed.
language
There is infrequent use of mild bad language ('son of a bitch', 'balls'). Very mild terms include 'damn'.
additional issues
There are brief references to suicide, bereavement and animal experimentation and euthanasia, but these issues are handled with restraint. Human patients' internal organs are briefly visible during a scene of surgery. A piece of metal debris becomes embedded in a child's head, causing a small trickle of blood, but the child survives. There is further very minor bloody detail when some fish are cut up to make sushi. There are also images of the skeleton of a dog who died after being trapped in a cage. Infrequent very mild sex references include a mention of two characters having 'made it' together.
