The film contains numerous scenes of war violence, including sequences featuring explosions, gunfire and grenade attacks. Battle scenes feature soldiers being shot with resultant blood spurts. In one scene, a person is shown on fire after an explosion. There is also a scene of boxing, in a military sports training context, featuring some heavy blows being landed.

There are multiple scenes of threat, including soldiers being held captive at gunpoint after battles. War sequences feature intense and sustained threat as soldiers fight and come under enemy fire. In some scenes, buildings and areas are seen on fire, creating additional threat.

There is use of mild bad language including 'bastard', 'bloody,' 'ass', 'hell', damn' and 'goddamn'.

Brief comic sex references and innuendo appear in dialogue, including in a letter from a soldier's wife and when a man cheekily asks a woman, who offers him a kiss for doing well, what he might get if he finishes in first place.

In one scene, an angry Pakistani man throws stones at a house being visited by an Indian man and says he wants the Indian 'dog' to leave.

Several sequences show injured and dead bodies with blood and wounds visible in the aftermath of battle. Gory injuries are visible in one scene in which men are injured by a shell entering their tank. Another soldier's face is shown with severe injuries after an attack.

To celebrate their passing out from a military academy, it is implied that a group of men slaughter some goats using swords. The actual killings are not depicted, although some blood is seen spurting up from below frame and some blood from the kill is subsequently wiped onto a man's face.

The film features themes of war, death and loss. There are verbal references to bereavement, execution, illness and war casualties.

Adult characters are shown drinking alcohol in social situations. Adults are also shown smoking cigarettes, with some close-up shots of smoking.
