HOW TO BUILD A GIRL is a British coming of age drama in which a teenager gets a job as a music critic.

Sex

There are scenes of strong sex including thrusting and buttock nudity. Strong references are made to sex, different positions, ejaculation, and penis size.

Language

There is use of strong language ('f**k', 'motherf**ker') and milder terms including 'whore', 'twat', 'wanker', 'cock' and 'bitch'. The homophobic term 'lezzer' is used by school bullies.

Self-harm

A teenage girl cuts her arm and is hospitalised. She soon realises the error of her ways, and writes an article condemning self-harm.

Sexual violence

A man attempts to blackmail one of his employees, suggestively implying a girl should sit on his lap in order to get an important piece of work. She does so, but intentionally hurts him so he agrees to give her the work without getting sexual favours in return.

There are undetailed references to suicide, drug references, and scenes of underage drinking.
