violence
In a disturbing scene of violence, white gunmen massacre a camp full of Indigenous men, women and children, resulting in blood spurts and sight of dead bodies with strong bloody injury detail. Later scenes show people being shot or struck with spears, occasionally creating large sprays of blood, and another man is beaten to death, with fleeting close-up sight of his bloodied corpse.
threat and horror
During a prolonged massacre scene, a man shoots into a hut where a woman is hiding with her baby; the killings occur off screen, but we hear the baby’s cries suddenly go silent.
language
There is use of strong language (‘f**k’). Milder terms include ‘bitch’, ‘jizz’, ‘prick’, ‘shit’, ‘bastard’, ‘piss’, ‘arse’ and ‘bloody hell’.
discrimination
There are scenes of historical racism, including racially-motivated bloody violence and use of discriminatory language (eg ‘Black bastard’, ‘Black piece of shit’, ‘half-caste’, ‘coon’).
sexual violence and sexual threat
A white man attempts to rape a screaming Indigenous woman, but she is able to escape and take revenge on her attacker and his companions. Another scene features non-graphic verbal references to an Indigenous woman having been “given” to white men as a child after her family was murdered.
There are non-gory images of dead animals that have been hunted for food. Indigenous people are shown in traditional dress featuring breast and rear nudity.
