violence
There is a prolonged sequence of strong bloody violence in which a supernaturally-possessed man brutally slaughters his wife and a group of cruise passengers using an axe. This scene features emphasis on blood splatter and brief yet graphic focus on a blow to a man’s head. There is lingering focus on heavily blood-stained dead bodies. In one scene, a young girl’s body is discovered with a pair of scissors embedded in her chest and her legs in a contorted shape in the aftermath of off-screen violence. A supernatural entity attacks a boy, causing him to choke and subsequently drown in a swimming pool. Shootings occur during a darkly lit scene, with an accompanying blood spurt. Other moments include close-up focus on repeated stabbings and a throat slashing.
There are scenes of strong supernatural threat throughout, including ‘jump scare’ moments and objects moving independently. Ghostly apparitions with axes impaled in their backs slowly emerge from a swimming pool. Occasional strong language ('f**k', 'motherf**ker'), as well as moderate bad language ('prick') and milder terms such as 'ass', ‘shit’, 'bullshit', 'Jesus' and 'damn'. Visual and verbal references are made to suicide; it is implied that a man takes his own life off-screen.
