There are upsetting scenes which revolve around a sense of bereavement felt by a son and father for the death of their mother and wife in childbirth. The son’s sense of loss, when he realises the life his parents could have had together, and when he finds he is capable of travelling back in time, leads to futile attempts to cause or persuade his mother to abort him before his birth. The father’s Alzheimer’s condition in later life also causes emotional upheaval as the son struggles to cope with his unpredictable behaviour.
