ETHARKKUM THUNINDHAVAN is a Tamil language action thriller in which a man defends women against a gang of violent and abusive criminals.

violence
People are shot, stabbed or slashed with blades, creating spurts of blood. A man is briefly suffocated with a plastic bag, and another is beaten with bats. A woman is chased and repeatedly struck with a spade, without bloody detail, and another is fatally struck by a car, resulting in aftermath sight of blood over her face. There are crunchy fight scenes featuring kicks, punches, headbutts and blows with heavy objects. There are also scenes of domestic violence, including ones in which a man strikes and then shoots his wife, without strong visual detail.
sexual violence and sexual threat
It is revealed that a group of criminals have seduced a series of women, threatened and coerced them into participating in filmed sexual encounters, and then shared the videos with their family members or posted them on social media. We see a video on a phone screen of a kneeling woman weeping and begging as a man repeatedly slaps her and tells her to take off her dress. We also see brief hidden camera footage of a woman showering, and other brief footage implied to depict sexual activity; however, the visual detail is thoroughly obscured by pixelation. A flashback scene shows men abducting a young girl and then looming over her as she lies on the ground and calls for help; it is implied that they raped and murdered her off screen.
suicide
We see the aftermath of an act of suicide. In another scene a man points a gun at his own head before turning the weapon on another person.
There are scenes of misogynistic behaviour, which is clearly criticised. Scenes of moderate threat include ones in which a frightened woman is chased and attacked by a gang of men. There is a short scene of drug misuse. Other issues include moderate sex references, mild bad language (e.g. ‘shit’), undetailed references to abortion, and scenes of emotional upset and bereavement.
