DOCTOR WHO - 60TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIALS is a science fiction series; in this episode, the Doctor is reunited with Donna to take on a sinister alien army intent on destroying London.

violence

There is a prolonged sequence in which hypnotised police officers take part in a shoot out with an alien army on a residential London street, with aftermath sight of burning cars and bodies scattered on the ground. However, there are no bloody images or injury detail. There are references to the beheading and eating of prisoners.

threat and horror

A villainous fantastical creature kidnaps a group of humans, threatening to eat them. A city begins to violently destruct with its roads splitting down the middle and explosions occurring. A woman's head momentarily becomes engulfed in flames and there is a montage of various sinister aliens displaying threatening behaviours.

discrimination

Two older teenage boys briefly harass and tease a transgender teenage girl. Their attitudes are clearly condemned and challenged throughout the episode.

additional issues

Mild bad language ('bloody') is accompanied by very mild terms such as 'hell' and 'God'. There is a brief very mild sex reference and scenes of very mild emotional upset.

DOCTOR WHO is a British sci-fi adventure drama series; in this 60th anniversary special, the Doctor and Donna team up with UNIT to find the source of the paranoid and aggressive behaviour sweeping across the globe.

threat and horror

There is a moderately scary scene in which a person is attacked by sentient wooden puppets, and another involving a person who has been partially transformed into a puppet. We see buildings burning and people panicking, arguing and shoving one another in the streets of London as society breaks down.

additional issues

In a scene set in the 1920s, a white shop owner makes a snide comment about a customer of colour "being used to sunnier climes"; unintimidated, the customer replies that he was born in Cheltenham. A woman under the influence of mind control accuses a wheelchair user of faking her disability, but she immediately apologises for her words once the mind control is lifted. Sequences of mild fantasy violence include images of a person being shot through the chest with a laser beam, without visible injuries. There is brief mild wordplay involving the term ‘balls’, in addition to use of very mild bad language (e.g. ‘God’ and ‘hell’).
