DARE TO DREAM is a German film in which an East German extra in the film industry who poses as a director in order to be reunited with the woman he loves. The single finger gesture at 01:58:13 and the moderate threat and violence at 21:53, 32:58 and 01:27:57 are enough to place the film as a whole in the 12 classification. Mild bad language (‘ass’, ‘bastard’, ‘damn’, ‘dammit’) could have been contained at ‘PG’, as could much else of this whimsical romance. Pass 12. No cuts. Then one of them beats Emil on the head with a nightstick. Moderate violence and they take him away in their car. 01:30:20 – “People are getting shot at the border!” spits Milou’s actor lover, Omar, desperate that she not ruin her life by pursuing Emil. 01:33:09 – “Dammit!” Studio director Beck when the entire crew for the film quits in protest at Emil being replaced as director for the film. 01:34:24 – “Finish the film and don’t screw up.” Beck to Emil. 01:36:10 – MS reunited Milou and Emil kiss passionately, No sex. 01:40:57 – LS Omar punches Emil and shoves him against the bonnet of a car, He yells at him but Alex pulls the two men apart. 01:58:13 – MLS single finger gesture to Emil by Milou. Pass 12. No cuts.
