strong bloody violence, threat, discrimination, very strong language

CONTAGION OF FEAR is an Australian action thriller in which a rogue police officer races to expose the conspirators behind a deadly bioterrorist attack.

CONTAGION OF FEAR is an Australian action thriller in which a rogue police officer races to expose the conspirators behind a deadly bioterrorist attack.

violence
A phone video shows a kidnapper cutting off several of his victim’s fingers with a cleaver, resulting in a large blood spurt and a brief glimpse of the severed appendages. A person is bludgeoned to death and others are shot or stabbed, with strong bloody detail. Further bloody images include victims of a bioweapon attack bleeding from their mouths and eyes, and corpses lying in pools of blood. There are also gory close-up images of severed pig heads at the scene of a hate crime.
threat and horror
After a young woman is abducted, her mother receives a video of the kidnapper mutilating the terrified victim’s hand with a cleaver. Panicking crowds attempt to flee as other people - including children - collapse and die during a biological terrorist attack on a major city. A group of white supremacists restrain a Muslim woman and try to behead her with a machete.
language
There is infrequent use of very strong language (‘c**t’), as well as more frequent use of strong language (‘f**k’). Milder terms include ‘cock’, ‘prick’, ‘dick’, ‘shit’, ‘bullshit’, ‘bastard’, ‘bloody’ and ‘arsehole’.
discrimination
Upsetting scenes of discrimination, including violence, threats and use of racist language, occur after an innocent Muslim man is framed as the perpetrator of a terrorist attack. We see dead bodies in pools of blood in the aftermath of racist attacks, and in another scene a man finds severed pig heads displayed outside an Islamic community centre. The film strongly condemns discriminatory attitudes and behaviour.
additional issues
In a comic sequence, a character expresses her frustration via a series of crude sex references. A villain is found leaning on a table covered in white powder, and another person is briefly depicted taking an excessive number of prescription tranquilisers in order to stay calm during an emergency. Other issues include brief references to sexual harassment.
