BOYS FROM BRAZIL, THE RISE OF THE BOLSONAROS is a British documentary series; in this episode, Army Captain Jair Bolsonaro leaves the military to begin his political career in Congress and soon becomes a national figure on television.
discrimination
A man expresses misogynistic and homophobic views, and a crowd of political supporters verbally threaten the LGBTQ+ community during a chant at a rally. Discriminatory language occurs (‘faggot’), however, its use is clearly condemned. A man makes an offensive comment and gesture to a person of East Asian descent which alludes to the size of his penis. The work as a whole does not condone discrimination.
sexual violence and sexual threat
Verbal references to sexual violence occur within a documentary context. A clip shows a man calling a female politician a "whore" and tells her that she “does not deserve to be raped”. This is accompanied by a threat of physical violence and is negatively presented. Sexual violence is clearly condemned by the work as a whole.
additional issues
Infrequent strong language occurs ('f**k'), as well as moderate bad language ('whore'), and very mild bad language ('hell').
A person appears to be stabbed, however, this lacks any visual detail.
Historical archive footage shows an officer repeatedly hitting a man during a period of military dictatorship.
There is an undetailed reference to an extra-marital affair. Clips taken from news reports show disturbing footage of wildfires.
