Backlash: The Murder of George Floyd

Footage of real violence include riots in which protesters clash with police; a man is struck against a car bonnet and people are punched and forcibly restrained. Molotov cocktails are thrown and buildings are set alight.

A woman describes being threatened by a man wielding a gun and a knife in a racially aggravated incident. There is real footage showing people feeling intimidated during police searches and also of escalating tensions and aggressive behaviour during protest events.

There is infrequent very strong language ('c**t') as well as strong language ('f**k') and milder terms which include 'bitch', 'dickhead', 'shit', 'piss', 'Jesus', 'Christ', 'God' and 'hell'. There is also use of the middle finger gesture.

Issues of modern and historic racism, institutional racism within policing and racially aggravated violence are discussed throughout the documentary, which also includes use of the racist terms 'n***er' and 'coon'. A woman recalls white classmates nicknaming her 'n***er' and 'nigs' when she was at school, also referring to her as 'golliwog' and 'black bitch'.

Brief verbal references are made to the misuse of fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Distressing sequences include real video footage showing the arrest and murder of George Floyd; this includes sight of him being forcibly restrained by police officers, one of whom kneels on his neck as he pleads for help. References are made to the deaths of other Black people in police custody.
