There are flashback scenes of domestic abuse in which a mother and father are emotionally abusive to their children and to each other. In one sequence, a father slaps his adolescent daughter around the face and a couple of drops of blood drip onto the floor. Upsetting scenes show an aging man deteriorating due to a degenerative illness. References are made to drug misuse. There is a passing remark about suicide. References are made to mental health disorders. Older characters make casual discriminatory comments to people which are condemned by other characters. References are made to adultery and a husband calls his wife 'frigid'.
