ANOTHER HAPPY DAY is a 2011 US drama in which tensions build over the course of a fraught weekend as a dysfunctional family reunites for a wedding.

violence
A teenage boy spits in his mother’s face and aggressively shoves her to the floor. Other scenes contain references to a woman having been physically abused by her ex-husband, and to this having long-term psychological repercussions for their children. Additionally, several scenes show the woman’s family members, who are aware of the abuse, behaving in an unsupportive manner towards her while showing sympathy and affection towards the man who abused her.
language
There is infrequent use of very strong language (‘c**t’) and frequent use of strong language (‘f**k’, ‘motherf**ker’). Milder terms include ‘pussy’, ‘whore’, ‘bitch’, ‘dick’, ‘shit’, ‘son of a bitch’, ‘pissed’, ‘ass’ and ‘asshole’.
drugs
A teenager is shown stealing and misusing fentanyl. There are also scenes of joint smoking, as well as frequent verbal references to drug misuse and addiction. Drug misuse is not glamorised or condoned.
suicide and self-harm
There are occasional references throughout the work to self-harm, including scenes in which unlikeable characters make callous and misinformed comments about the issue. One scene features brief sight of scars resulting from self-harm over a young woman’s arms and torso.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
additional issues
There are scenes of racist, transphobic and ableist behaviour, such as one in which an unsympathetic white character casually uses the term ‘n***a’, and another in which a teen refers to a child with Asperger syndrome as a ‘retard’; however, discrimination is not condoned. Occasional moderate sex references include crude comic references to semen and genitalia. Other issues include scenes of emotional upset, infrequent verbal suicide references, and brief full-frontal male nudity in a non-sexual context.
