A thirteen-year-old character and her male classmate undress and kiss on a bed as they prepare to have sex; however, they stop before it goes any further. In an earlier scene, the boy and girl kiss in a school toilet and he touches her between her legs over her underwear. There is sight of condoms in wrappers, and references to virginity.

There are scenes of discriminatory bullying targeted at people who have contracted a fantastical virus. People display racism and homophobia and there is use of the homophobic term 'faggy'. Discrimination is not condoned by the film as a whole.

Drug dealing, addiction and drug misuse are depicted, with sequences showing a character preparing and injecting heroin. There are distressing scenes in which a man overdoses multiple times, often in the presence of a teenage girl.
