2023 OSCAR NOMINATED SHORT FILMS - LIVE ACTION is a collection of five short films from around the world.

discrimination
A man reacts in an aggressive and threatening manner when he realises that the woman he is trying to chat up is transgender; there follows a prolonged sequence in which he and another man corner the woman and mock, threaten and sexually harass her until another person finally intervenes. The same man behaves rudely and intimidatingly towards a woman with dwarfism, addressing her as ‘Tiny’. Discrimination is not condoned.
sexual violence and sexual threat
We see a man enter his young daughters’ bedroom at night and forcibly remove the younger girl from the room; the sequence strongly implies that he is sexually abusing the older girl, but no sexual violence occurs on screen. In another short film a man roughly pulls a trans woman’s face towards his clothed crotch in an act of transphobic harassment. Another film contains sustained scenes of threat and suspense as a frightened teenage girl attempts to slip out of an airport undetected in order to avoid an arranged marriage to an older man.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
additional issues
There is infrequent use of strong language (‘f**k’); milder terms include ‘shite’, ‘dick’, ‘dickhead’, ‘ass’, ‘arse’, ‘tits’ and ‘piss’, as well as use of the ‘middle finger’ gesture. There are also infrequent moderate crude sex references. During a fishing scene, we see a girl striking a live fish with an oar, without bloody detail.
