We’ve been classifying content in the UK for over 100 years so we’ve got real experience in this field. We keep up to date with what people across the UK think through regular consultation and research, and we work closely with customers across media, film and technology so we’re up to date with new developments that might affect how children and young people access and view content.

We can provide you with thoughtful and thought provoking resources and material to help you study for your GCSEs and A levels.

We also have a range of detailed case studies, written by our team of expert Compliance Officers, that can support your students learning.

You can also read more about the legislation that governs films and media regulation.

Are you a university student studying media or film studies?

When we started out, going to the cinema was the only way that people could see films. There was no DVD, video, internet, or streaming. We still classify film for cinema release today and most people are used to seeing our symbols that show what age a film is suitable for. Just as we keep in touch with how attitudes change so that we’re relevant to people, today we do more than just classify film for cinema so that we’re relevant to whatever people watch and easily accessible wherever they watch it.
