WILD is the true-life story of Cheryl Strayed, who in her mid-twenties decided to walk the 1,100 mile Pacific Crest trail alone, in an effort to confront her personal demons.

There is frequent use of strong language ('motherf**ker, 'f**k').

There are a number of brief but strong sex scenes, including sight of breast and buttock nudity.

During flashbacks, we see preparation and use of heroin, including sight of the drug being injected into a character's leg. These sequences are brief and the work as a whole does not glamorise or condone the use of drugs.

There are some brief sequences that suggest the protagonist's father was abusive, including sight of her being threatened with his fist and sight of bruising on her mother's face.

A sick horse has be put down by shooting, although the killing is not shown on screen. A human character also dies from cancer, although this is handled sensitively.

There are some scenes of threat, when the protagonist is robbed at knife point, and when she encounters potentially dangerous men while alone in the wilderness.

There is also a scene of natural frontal nudity when a man emerges from a river after bathing.
