WE BOUGHT A ZOO is a comedy drama about a widowed man and his two children buying and running a zoo.

Language

The film contains occasional use of mild bad language, such as 'shit', 'bullshit', 'asshole' and 'dick'.

The film also contains some mild innuendo. At one point a man advises his brother to 'hike' a woman, and at another point a female character refuses to "take one for the team" after being told someone finds her attractive.

There is brief sight of a slightly bloody cartoon drawing of a decapitated man, drawn by a teenage boy as an expression of grief at the death of his mother.

There are also a couple of scenes of very mild threat as a bear roars at a man and as a lion stalks up behind a zoo worker.

WE BOUGHT A ZOO also contains some scenes of very mild emotional upset as the widowed man and his two children talk about the death of their mother. In some scenes the children and adult cry but they are all offered reassurance and comfort immediately.
