WAVES is a US drama in which a suburban family struggles to cope with a traumatic series of events.

Language

There is use of strong language (‘f**k’, ‘motherf**ker’) throughout. Milder terms include 'bitch', 'pussy', 'dick', 'nigga', 'shit' and 'asshole'. One scene features aggressive uses of the term ‘nigger’, but the work does not condone racism.

Drugs

People are shown misusing drugs including opioid pain-killers and marijuana. Another scene shows people tripping on ecstasy.

Violence

A teenager strikes and accidentally kills his girlfriend during an argument, resulting in brief but strong bloody aftermath images.

A moderate scene of sex shows one person thrusting on top of another under bedcovers. This scene also features a verbal reference to 'coming'. In another scene we see a person masturbating to pornography, without strong visual detail. Other issues include scenes of bereavement and terminal cancer, including sight of a dying man coughing up blood. There are also brief images of aborted foetuses on posters at an anti-abortion protest.

This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
