THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is drama, from 1994, in which a man is sentenced to life in prison for murder.

Language

There is use of strong language (‘f**k’, ‘motherf**ker’).

Violence

Strong violence includes a man being heavily beaten, with kicks and punches, and another man being brutally beaten with a prison guard’s truncheon.

Threat and horror

Sexual threat includes a man being beaten and held down by a gang of men as they threaten to rape him.

The film also contains two suicide scenes, one in which a man hangs himself and another in which a man shoots himself in the mouth.
