RED SPARROW is a US thriller in which a young woman is recruited into an elite Russian spy programme.

There are shootings, fistfights and knife fights with resulting bloody injury detail. During a scene of torture a device for removing skin is used on a victim, and there is brief gory detail when a mutilated corpse is discovered. In one sequence a woman's leg is badly broken with subsequent medical detail as her injury is operated on.

In one scene a woman is raped, but as the violence takes place a third party intervenes to stop the attacker.

Scenes include breast and buttock nudity, thrusting, and a woman straddling a man. There are occasional references to intercourse and pornography, as well as scenes of implied masturbation and brief S&M activity. Instances of sexualised and natural nudity also occur, including brief genital nudity during sequences of violence.

There is infrequent use of very strong language ('c**t') and occasional use of strong language ('f**k').

Precuts information

During post-production, the distributor sought and was given advice on how to secure the desired classification. Following this advice, certain changes were made prior to submission

Note: The following text may contain spoilers

This film was originally seen for advice. The company was advised the film was likely to be classified 18 but that their preferred 15 could be achieved by making reductions in one scene of strong sadistic violence (a garroting). When the film was submitted for formal classification appropriate reductions had been made in that scene and the film was classified 15.
