PREMIUM RUSH is an action thriller about a New York cycle courier whose latest delivery assignment finds him caught in a race against time as he is chased across the city by a corrupt policeman. The film was classified '12A' for one use of strong language and moderate violence.

The film contains a single use of strong language. The BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'The use of strong language (for example, 'fuck') must be infrequent'.

Much of the action features the central character being chased through the city on his bicycle as he attempts to evade various pursuers. There are some inevitable crashes and accidents, but no serious injury is seen other than some footage shown during the end credits in which the lead actor is seen with some blood on his arm after performing a stunt. The sense of threat in these chase sequences is well balanced by frequent moments of comedy. However, two scenes of moderate violence exceed the terms of the 'PG' Guidelines which state 'Moderate violence, without detail, may be allowed'. The first scene features a brutal assault and the second scene involves an execution-style shooting. Neither scene presents any strong detail and only limited sight of blood. They are therefore more appropriately classified at '12A' where the Guidelines state 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context'.

The film also contains some mild and moderate bad language such as uses of 'goddam', 'Jesus', 'moron', 'shit', 'ass', 'asshole', 'screw it up', 'screw you', 'piss off', 'bastard', 'balls', 'douche bag', and 'bitch'. There are also infrequent mild sex references and a passing reference to drugs.
