THE MUMMY is a US horror action adventure film in which an American man accidentally awakens an evil mummy while on an archeological dig in the ancient city of Hamunaptra.

There are scenes of horror including the implied sight of an ancient Egyptian having his tongue removed before he is wrapped in bandages, placed in a coffin and eaten alive by hundreds of scarab beetles. Other scenes of horror include sight of a scarab beetle crawling under a man's skin and sight of a man who has had his tongue and eyes ripped out. The horror is intense but the scenes are neither frequent or prolonged.

There is moderate violence including implied stabbings, shootings and beheadings; a man is also seen being set on fire.

A man has a noose placed over his head and is left hanging, before the rope is cut and the man drops to safety. There are also uses of mild bad language ('ass', 'son of a bitch', 'bugger', 'bastard', 'bloody', 'damn', 'hell').
